On March 21, 1965, that is 47 years ago, Barbra Streisand filmed the Bergdorf Goodman fashion sequence for her first TV special MY NAME IS BARBRA. Here is a tribute to that great TV special and the famous fashion sequence. I have always wondered what if other songs were used in that sequence. What songs from Barbra's vast repertoire could be used. So here I chose a few of my favorites: 1) I'm Late ( from the TV special MY NAME IS BARBRA) Sammy Fain, music and Bob Hillard, lyrics. Originally from the Walt Disney Film Alice in Wonderland ( 1951). 2) SMALL WORLD from the Color Me Barbra special ( 1966) Music by Jule Styne and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Originally from the Broadway musical GYPSY ( 1959) and will be used in the forthcoming film GYPSY starring Barbra Streisand. 3) TRY TO REMEMBER from the Color Me Barbra special (1966) Music by Harvey Schmidt and lyrics by Tom Jones. Originally from the Off Off Broadway show THE FANTASTICKS ( 1960 ). 4) THE WAY WE WERE ( Love theme) Music by Marvin Hamlisch, Lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman ( from the 1973 film) 5) SING ( Sing a Song) composer: Joe Raposo from the TV show SESAME STREET. 6) I'VE GOT NO STRINGS music: Leigh Harline Lyrics: Ned Washington. From the Walt Disney film PINOCCHIO (1940) from the Lp: My Name is Barbra ( 1965) arranged and conducted by Peter Matz
As per your requests, here are the lyrics:
I'm late, I'm late For a very important date, No time to say hello, Goodbye, I'm late, I'm late I'm late, I'm late . And when I wave I lose all the time I save. My fuzzy ears and whiskers took me too much time to shave.
I run and then I hop, hop, hop, I wish that I could fly. There's danger if I dare to stop and here's the reason why.
I'm late, late, late, late, late...I run and then I hop, hop, hop,I wish that I could fly.there's danger if I stop, stop, stop and here is the reason why.You see, I'm overdue.I'm in a kinda rabbit stew,Can't even say goodbye, hello, I'm late.
I'm late, i'm late I'd love to stop and chatter, But i don't have a minute I must meet with the mad hatter. The mad, mad, mad, mad hatter. We must chatter about a very important matter.
We have so much in common It's a phenomenon We could pull our resources by joining forces From now on...
Try to remember And if you remember Then follow, follow, follow follow...
Can it be that it was all so simple then Or has time rewritten every line If we had the chance to do it all again Tell me Would we? Could we?
Sing, sing a song Sing out loud, sing out strong Sing of good things, not bad Sing of happy, not sad Sing, sing a song Make it simple to last Your whole life long Don't worry that It's not good enough For anyone else to hear Just sing, sing a song La la la la...
La la la la... Sing, sing a song Make it simple to last Your whole life long Don't worry that It's not good enough For anyone else to hear You just Sing your song La la la la...
I've got no strings to hold me down To make me fret, or make me frown I had strings but now I'm free There are no strings on me I've got no strings so I have fun I'm not tied to anyone How I love my liberty, there are no strings on me! Hi-ho the me-ri-o, I'm as happy as can be I want the world to know nothing ever worries me I've got no strings to hold me down To make me fret, or make me frown I had strings but now I'm free There are no strings on me
I've got no strings and I'm so glad No strings at all to make me sad I had strings but now I'm free, There are no strings on me Oh, hi-ho, the way we go I'm as happy as can be I want the world to know nothing ever worries me! I've got no strings so I have fun I'm not tied up to anyone How I love my liberty, there are no strings on me! No ties to bind me, it's not easy to find me, 'Cause I've got no strings on me!
"Barbra remembers in Just For The Record: "'Second Hand Rose' became part of a tongue-in-cheek fantasy sequence which was shot at Bergdorf Goodman's...And thanks to people I loved and loved working with—Joe Layton, Dwight Hemion, Peter Matz, Robert Emmett, Tom John, and, of course, Marty—I was able to realize my dream."

Happy Birthday Barbra 70 years young on April 24th
I watched this video on the new Ipad at the Apple Store, and I was amazed at how well it looks, in glorious black and white. Steve Jobs was really a genius in designing such a sophisticated tablet. the New Ipad
